How can police forces move beyond short-term workforce planning and build a more strategic approach to future workforce needs?

As one of four participating forces in the NPCC Strategic Workforce Planning Pilot, Warwickshire Police worked with Skills for Justice to strengthen its workforce planning approach and create a clearer long-term view of workforce requirements. With a new vision and values in place, the force recognised the need to look further ahead, aligning workforce planning with organisational priorities, risk management, innovation and financial planning.

Through the pilot, Warwickshire Police benefitted from specialist support, practical tools and analytical expertise. Using the Six Steps Methodology to Integrated Workforce Planning®, the force developed a structured and repeatable approach that helped shape a new workforce strategy tailored to its own ambition and challenges.

The work has already delivered significant benefits, including an Executive Board-approved workforce strategy, stronger workforce planning capability, improved use of workforce data and greater organisational focus on workforce planning at senior levels.
