Coming soon: Level 3 Award in Counter-Terrorism Protective Security and Preparedness (CTPSaP)

Delivering national protective security capability

The Workforce Development Trust is working in partnership with Skills for Justice Training to support delivery of the SFJ Awards Level 3 Award in Counter-Terrorism Protective Security and Preparedness (CTPSaP).

This nationally recognised qualification, developed by SFJ Awards, is the only qualification of its type endorsed by Counter-Terrorism Policing and the National Counter-Terrorism Security Office (NaCTSO).

Skills for Justice delivers the qualification as a registered training provider, supported by The Workforce Development Trust, which brings together workforce development and awarding expertise across sectors including justice, health, hospitality, retail and tourism.

Together, we help organisations build the knowledge, awareness and preparedness needed to strengthen protective security across public-facing environments.

Why this qualification matters

Protecting people and places is now a professional standard across sectors, with organisational preparedness a core responsibility in public-facing environments.

This Level 3 Award is designed to strengthen protective security capability across venues, sites and organisations. It provides structured learning that builds awareness and practical understanding, while supporting wider resilience and preparedness strategies.

What you’ll gain

  • Practical risk assessment skills: Identify vulnerabilities within venues, sites, and operations.
  • Preparedness planning: Develop counter-terrorism preparedness plans, including security measures such as evacuation, invacuation, and lockdown.
  • Understanding legislation: Learn how the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025 (also referred to as Martyn’s Law) affects your workplace and your role*.
  • Positive security culture development: Learn how to influence and engage colleagues in maintaining safety.
  • Career progression: Strengthen your suitability for supervisory, management or advisory roles with responsibility for protective security and preparedness planning.

This qualification provides a solid foundation in counter-terrorism measures and is suitable for professionals across security, events, facilities, health, hospitality, retail, transport, and wider public-facing environments.

*Training alone will not make an individual or organisation compliant with the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025 (also referred to as Martyn’s Law). However, the qualification has been developed to align with this legislation and provides the skills, knowledge and understanding needed to support an organisational approach to compliance.

Strengthening organisational preparedness

Developed with national protective security partners, this qualification provides a consistent, nationally recognised standard for protective security awareness and capability.

Organisations can be confident they are engaging with a training ecosystem connected to the professional framework behind the qualification, with the combined expertise of:

  • SFJ Awards – the awarding organisation responsible for the qualification
  • Skills for Justice – the UK Sector Skills Council for justice and approved CTPSaP training centre
  • The Workforce Development Trust – the parent organisation supporting workforce development across multiple sectors.
